Since mine figured out how to send text messages they have attempted to get "with it" by shortening their messages. Unfortunately this is not the conventional short hand that you and I are used to. The shortening of my parent's messages don't actually involve abbreviations or the use of letters to replace word sounds. They just leave out entire words as well as any punctuation. Mum and Dad, this does not make your messages
a) more efficient
b) easy to understand
c) likely to have me comply with your request. Cos let's face it, its usually a request.
And now for no practical reason at all I present to you...
How to write text messages to me like my parents do
a guide
Step One- Start by writing my name (or pet name) just so I know that your text message is for me.
Step two- This is the main message part so write what you have to say and then take out all the seemingly "unnecessary words". For example, if you would like to ask me to pick up some wine on the way to dinner and to not be late then write something like...
"bring wine on way no late"
Of course don't waste time by selecting the ideal word on predictive text, just use what is first available.
"bring wind on way on late"
*Under no circumstances assume that I won't understand what you're saying.*
Step three- Finally sign off your message with "mum" or "dad" so that I know its really you.
Thats all folks, now you can write like an old person! Maybe I will get mum to guest program next time?
